West and center of French Guiana |
The coast from Cayenne to St Laurent-du-Maroni :
This 300 km
long trip (only possible by car or by coach for the groups) along side of the sea coast
gives the opportunity for the travellers to discover, among others, the small town of
Iracoubo and its church (decorated by a prisoner-painter) and to visit St Laurent and it's
Camp de la Transportation, recently restored as an historic monument. |

|
St Laurent is the
depart point of excursions by pirogue on the Maroni river for 5 days, with nights in welcoming villages in
carbet/hammocks, way back to Cayenne by plane from Maripasoula. |

|
Awala-Yalimapo
and the Galibis amerindians :
At
about 40km from St Laurent you will have the opportunity to meet the amerindians of
Awala-Yalimapo at the mouth of the Maroni river. In Yalimapo, on the beach of Les Hattes,
it is pleasant to overnight in carbets (some of them are classified "gites de
France") hold by the amerindians. |
| From April to July, you can assist to the eggs laying of
the giant Luth turtles (up to 450 kg). This place is their main reproduction
site in the world. The Luths turttles are the biggest sea turttles in the wold, stictly
protected. The Mana river : |

|
Starting from the
small town of Mana, it is possible to
discover the third, and the most wild river of F.Guiana, the Mana, which used to be (and is still a bit) the gold
searchers' river.
|

|
A 5 days and 4 nights
(bivouac/hammock) trip by pirogue will lead you to Saut Fraccas and let you admiring the
nature wilderness and the impressive rapids (no danger, our motorists are professional) of
this big and almost inhabited river. One day more will allow to reach Gros Saut.
The
complete trip upstream to Degrad Blanc, then to Saül by walking (30 km) takes 10 days and
9 nights (flight back to Cayenne by AIR GUYANE), where the downstream trip (Cayenne-Saül
by plane) takes 9 days and 8 nights. |
These excursions, among the
most exclusive (but somehow physical) of F.Guiana, are proposed on an all inclusive basis
(plane, meals and beverages), as are all our excursions. |
Upstream and Downstream the
Maroni river
The Maroni , border river with Suriname, is the longest river of
French Guiana. It is the "royal path" for discovering the french Amazonia, in 4
days (downstream) or 5 days (upstream) of (intermittent) travel by large pirogue.
|
| The "motoristes"
(enginers) and the "takaristes" (in front of the boat, they lead it among the
rocks), busch negroes, are extraordinary skilful in the steering (extremely secure but
very impressive) of their traditional pirogues. The nights are in
carbet/hammock in the welcoming villages (Saramacas, Bonis and Wayanas), allowing for the
discovery of the traditional way of life of these very affable population, along 250 km.
The trip includes the flight between Cayenne and Maripasoula as well as the travel in bus
between St Laurent an Cayenne (or the other way round).
This excursion can
only be organized by pirogues of 12 persons max, and no more than 2 pirogues at the same
time, during a 8 to 10 days stay in F.Guiana. |
 |
For canoes lovers, it is possible to go downstream the Maroni
along 180 km in 10 days.
|

|
Maripasoula and the Wayanas:
Maripasoula, administration station,
is located on the high Maroni and is border between the country of the Bosh (ex-slaves
escaped from Surinam) and the district of the amerindians Wayanas.
The airstrip allows a link between
Cayenne and Maripasoula (1 hour flight in Twin Otter). |
The town has few to offer, but it's the depart point of the descent by pirogue of the
Maroni river (4 days and 3 nights) and of trips on the Inini river, for the discovery of
the traditional populations.
where is located the tourist camp of Saut Sonnelle (45 minutes by pirogue) ). There, individuals or
group of up to 20 people will be able to spend two to three days (or more) of complete
change of scenery.
|
The excursion offers a full taste of the amazonian
adventure in safe conditions and with a comfort convenient to everyone. Flying over the
amazonian forest and discovering the native amerindian populations make this trip a
"must see" during a journey in F.Guiana..
The "nec plus ultra" is to combine a trip on the Maroni and a 2 to 3 days stay at Saut
Sonnelle (before or after), which allows for saving the flight fare
Cayenne-Maripasoula-Cayenne since the excursion on the Maroni makes you passing anyway in
this town.

 |
Saül, the wild heart of
F.Guiana :
|

|
Isolated in the very heart of the amazonian forest,
reachable only by plane (AIR GUYANE, 200 km in 1h), Saül is a small town, evidence of the
epoch of the gold fever (end XIX - first half XX), the only one town which does not lie
along a river. The main interest is the discovery of the forest, its fauna and flore,
during a trekking outside time and space, along the creeks
and on the hills. |
A first fomula, in 4 days and 3 nights, convenient to
everyone, will allow for the discovery of the little town of Saül and its preserved
surroundings through pedestrial trips on the forest paths, with an initiation to
traditional gold searching, the visite of old placers and a refreshing walk to the creek
Limonade, where you will have the possibility to fish (net). |
A second formula is dedicated to those who are relatively good trekkers and will lead you
up to Saut Maïs in an unforgettable trip.
This
excursion in 6 days and 5 nights allows for an exceptionally authentic approach of
nature, with the initiation to the traditional technics of life in the deep forest
(utilization of natural rescources for buiding carbets, for preserving food...),
possibility to accompany night hunting, fishing....
These small
groups expeditions (4 to 8 persons per guide) are for normally healthy persons, at least
15 years old. Food, water and material is shared betwenn the participants for
holding. |
